There were up to 1000 euros in cash at Shell petrol stations-without having to spend a cent for petrol or chips. But this service will soon be a thing of the past.
It is still gladly accepted, issued only in the form of change. According to the Shell petrol stations, no cash can soon be withdrawn. The Cash Group (including Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Postbank) want to hire the service from the end of June.
1000 euros cash without minimum sales
According to “KStA”, 1300 petrol stations will no longer offer the service. So far, customers can withdraw up to 1000 euros there-without minimum sales, but against the usual fee for ATMs if their bank is not part of the cash group.
It is still unclear whether there will be a new or similar collaboration with other banks in the future.
For cash group customers, the lifting of money at the end of the shell cooperation becomes more difficult. Because some of the financial institutions involved, including Postbank and Due Deutsche Bank, want to close almost half of their branches by the end of 2026.
Fewer and fewer ATMs
The number of ATMs also drops drastically: in 2018 there were 59,000 output machines nationwide, in 2023 there were only 51,000 – trend falling. The reason is likely to be the significant increase in digital payments, and the numerous money machines are also more unattractive.
