In economically difficult times, people take a closer look at their expenses. This also applies to vacation, as a survey by the tourism industry shows.
In view of the tense economic situation, many people also rethink their travel behavior according to a survey by the tourism industry. Almost a third of the respondents stated that it was less (around 20 percent) or shorter (11 percent) this year, as the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) announced.
Only one tenth stated that they were more common this year and also spend more money on the vacations. However, 44 percent of those surveyed do not change their travel behavior compared to the previous year.
Extreme heat waves or forest fires in popular holiday regions, however, do not lead to the fact that people are more on their vacation in cooler times. Two thirds of the travelers surveyed continue to plan their time out for the summer months between June and September.
The BTW is organizing the “Tourism Summit” industry day in Berlin this Monday, where, among others, Berlin’s governing mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) is expected.
For the survey, more than 2,000 people were interviewed online between 19 and 21 May. According to the association, the results are representative of the resident population in Germany aged 18 and over.
