Helsing takes over aircraft manufacturers Grob Aircraft

A Kamikaze drone and an underwater system are already part of the program. Now the AI company Helsing buys a manufacturer of hardware.

The armaments company Helsing, which specializes in AI applications, wants to take over the Bavarian aircraft manufacturer Grob Aircraft SE. A corresponding agreement was signed, Helsing said.

“Together both companies of the next generation will develop technologies for the air combat. The expertise of Grob Aircraft as manufacturers of aircraft from composite materials and Helsing’s AI and software solutions together create considerable potential for innovation and growth,” continued the Munich AI company.

According to this information, Grob Aircraft with 275 employees has many years of experience in military and civil aviation and with flight training programs worldwide. The company’s constructions were suitable as a platform for Helsing’s AI, it said.

Helsing is already building the Kamikaze drone HX-2, which is used by Ukraine. The company has recently also presented an underwater system.

Economic Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) called the takeover a “step to strengthen the security and defense industry” (SVI) in Bavaria. “Not only because of the strengthening of our willingness to defend, but also as an innovation driver, the growing of the Bavarian SVI companies is important for the development of our location,” he said. “Through skillful mediation between a departing automotive division and receiving SVI companies, we can keep the labor market stable in Bavaria.”
