Strawberries at season low prices – that much the shell costs
The fruits are comparatively cheap in the middle of the season. Experts assume that prices will not stay that way for long.
The bowl strawberries are currently at the cheapest prices of the season. “There is now also prices below two euros this week,” says market analyst Eva Würtenberger from the Information Society Agrarmarkt. Last week, the cheapest price in the supermarket was 2.39 euros for 500 grams – the average price for the kilogram of German strawberries at 5.87 euros.
For comparison: at the end of April/beginning of May, the kilo was still 8.19 euros on average, as the market analyst says. In the second half of June, prices would probably be attracted again.
Harvested different ways
According to the Association of Southern German asparagus and strawberry farmers, around 70 percent of normal culture have already been harvested in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, South Hesse and Bavaria. In contrast, in the north, such as in Lower Saxony and Brandenburg, it is only about 20 percent. The main season ends in the south of the south at the beginning of July, in the other federal states in the course of Julis.
