SAP boss Klein: Do not hire diversity programs

US President Donald Trump has a campaign against diversity and inclusion. The software manufacturer SAP fits – and therefore gives up his quota for women. The CEO defends this.

SAP CEO Christian Klein has defended himself against criticism of the painted women’s quota. “We don’t stop our diversity programs,” said Klein of the weekly newspaper “Time”. The global goal of 40 percent is not pursued. “Instead, we measure at the local level.”

Europe’s largest software company had recently deleted various diversity goals, which caused displeasure in the workforce, but also for some shareholders.

Klein justified the step: “The SAP is in hard competition with many US companies that all adhere to these legal requirements.” Gave away to the dignity of this billion dollar business.

Trump leads campaign against diversity programs in the USA

US President Donald Trump is on a campaign against initiatives for diversity, equality and inclusion. Disadvantaged groups of people are to be promoted with the previous programs – but the President and his Republican Party claim that this will discriminate against others and suffer from competence. There is no evidence of this.

He believes in the positive effects of diversity, said Klein in the interview. However, as CEO, he had to act in the interest of the SAP: “We operate large parts of the US government’s software and technology, which insists on these requirements.” This decision was about our business in the USA.

Most recently, it became known that SAP gave up its targeted women’s quota of 40 percent in the workforce. In addition to the abolition of the overall women’s quota in the group, women at SAP will no longer be specifically encouraged in management positions at SAP at certain levels. In 2024, Europe’s largest software company made almost a third of the turnover of 34.2 billion euros in the United States.
