Many drivers feel the long loading times of electric cars as a disadvantage. Actually, an electric car would not have to stop while driving. The federal government tests Israeli technology in Bavaria.

The federal government tests the charging of electric cars on the A6 in Bavaria while driving on the highway. Autobahn GmbH and the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg gave the starting signal for the research project on the one kilometer-long test track between Amberg-Sulzbach and Amberg-West. The charging coils are hidden under the road, the current inductive -so is transferred to the battery via special recipients. The electric car charging system was not developed by a German company, but by the Israeli company Electreon.

“Electric Road System” is tested internationally

Electreon charging routes are planned in several countries or are already in operation, including in Israel, the USA, France, Italy and China. In Germany, too, there was already a – much shorter – Electreon test track, but not on a highway, but at the Baden -Württemberg electricity supplier EnBW in Karlsruhe.

According to Bavaria’s Minister of Science Markus Blume and Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (both CSU), the start date. “The efficiency is over 90 percent and we achieve completely unexpected possibilities,” said Blume. “Reach problems come loose.” According to Electreon, the previous record of an inductively invited electric car was almost 2,000 kilometers long.

Main target group bus and truck

According to the company, the technology has been successfully tested at driving speeds of up to 80 kilometers. However, the vehicles must be equipped with the corresponding receivers. The main target group are not private car owners, but companies in local public transport and in the transport industry.
