Most recently, China and the USA in Switzerland had agreed a temporary break in the customs dispute. But the list of problems is still a long time. Now further talks should bring new impetus.
Beijing has confirmed the meeting of China’s representative and the United States next Monday. Vice Prime Minister He Lifeng will attend Great Britain from June 8th to 13th at the invitation of the British government, a spokesman for the Foreign Office said.
During his stay, he would keep the first meeting as part of the economic and trade mechanism between China and the USA, it said. The Foreign Office did not provide any further information about the Chinese delegation.
Trump announced talks
Previously, US President Donald Trump had declared Truth Social on his online platform that senior representatives would meet for further trading talks in London. Trump announced that the US delegation will be headed by Finance Minister Scott Bessent, Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the trade officer Jamieson Greer.
According to Trump, the talks are about discussing subtleties of a trade agreement between the two largest economies in May. In the customs dispute, the Republican had increased punitive tariffs on imports from China to the United States to 145 percent, whereupon Beijing reacted.
Topics beyond tariffs out
Other issues are US restrictions on the sale of important technology products such as chip design software to China. Washington is annoyed by China’s export controls on rare earths.
The Ministry of Commerce in Beijing once again justifies the controls by the fact that the raw materials were goods for civilian and military purposes, an evening message said. In accordance with the law, China gave a certain number of export licenses and is ready to strengthen the exchange about it with concerns.
