Marcó del Pont assured that the agreement with the IMF does not imply the creation of new taxes

In an interview with El Destape Radio, the official recalled that the Alberto Fernández government “reversed the regressive tax reform of macrismo in matters of social security, personal property” and assured: “we are also advancing with progressive modifications in the tax on profits paid by companies and the wage floor from which workers pay profits was raised.

“It is not enough to improve the tax system if we do not guarantee that those who have the most pay, if we do not continue to close the evasion and avoidance routes using all the tools that we have at our disposal and adding new technology”, assured the head of the AFIP. “Our Strategic Plan intends to continue strengthening the control capacity of the internal activities carried out by the DGI and the foreign trade carried out by Customs. This is how we address the various maneuvers that erode the tax base of our countries,” she added.

Marcó del Pont mentioned the deepening of the control capacity from the AFIP for the agricultural sector, among others. “We put into practice the electronic consignment note, which is what is needed to transport grains within the country, which was previously on paper and allowed abuses. We also implemented artificial intelligence to carry out automatic electronic audits on large taxpayers, we approached the use of satellite images to know what is produced and how it is produced, not only based on self-declarations”, the official remarked when referring to some of the policies and tools implemented over the last two years. She also maintained that it is going to deepen “international control based on the exchange of information with other countries so that they pay assets in foreign currency outside of Argentina”.

“We believe that there is room to improve collection through the tax administration. There is some suspicion to see what is behind this agreement with the IMF. But there are no concessions in terms of fiscal adjustment. It is possible to achieve growth and not give up the increase in spending in real terms, with a fiscal improvement based on the improvement in collection”, analyzed the official.

In this sense, the head of the AFIP highlighted that “the most virtuous way of financing public policies is through collection, where the contribution of the highest income sectors is relevant. The alternative is indebtedness and we know the regressive consequences that it has”.

On the previous management in the AFIP, Del Pont concluded: “The work that we developed from the audit area showed that Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her children were audited in hiding, without notifying them or the right to defense. They set up groups of work that were outside the faculties they had to act, they carried out a fiscal execution that should not have existed”. In this sense, the official warned that “We make the corresponding complaints and the political authorities of the previous government are going to have to take responsibility for the damage caused by acting outside the procedures.”
