The long good development on the labor market has ensured more regular employment relationships in Germany. The trend towards part -time also contributes to this.
The long -term booming labor market in Germany has brought many people into regular employment. Last year, 74.8 percent of employed people were employed in a “normal employment relationship”, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced in Wiesbaden. The proportion was significantly higher than in 2010 with 65.8 percent at that time.
As a normal employment relationship, the statisticians understand social security, unlimited jobs with at least 21 hours per week – temporary work is excluded. Employees between the ages of 15 and 64 who do not complete any training or voluntary service are considered.
Part -time is clearly increasing
The reason for the development is also that more people work part -time with more than 20 hours per week, Destatis explained: Between 2010 and 2024, their share doubled almost from 7.3 to 14.1 percent.
At the same time, the so-called atypical employment such as time and temporary work and mini jobs in Germany decreased. Its share fell from 22.6 percent in 2010 to 17.2 percent last year. The continuous decline since the beginning of the 2010s continues, the statisticians said. Since 2010, the proportion of self -employed people has slowly but steadily decreased from 11.1 percent to 7.9 percent last year.
