Two industry giants make common cause: Daimler Truck and Toyota found a joint venture in Asia. It should start after delays in April 2026.

As planned, commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck and the Japanese carmaker Toyota put together the trucks of the daughters Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino. The corporations want to hold 25 percent of the shares on a new listed holding holding. Around 50 percent of the company should therefore go to investors. The holding company is scheduled to start in April 2026 and noted on the stock exchange in Tokyo.

The new joint venture will be overlooked over 40,000 in the future and is to be managed by Daimler Truck, Karl Deppen, a joint message. The aim is to work together in the areas of development, procurement and production. Daimler Truck boss Karin Radström said: “We bring two strong partners together to form an even stronger company and successfully design the decarbonization of traffic.” The integration of Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino is really historical.

According to the announcement, Toyota boss Koji Sato said: “We believe that we have to shape the future together.” Radström continued that the Daimler subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino Motors had the opportunity to use size advantages – these scale effects are the key to success in the technological renovation of the industry.

Signed two years ago declaration of intentions

The two corporations had signed a declaration of intent for the project two years ago. However, the plans had delayed problems with the emission certification of motors at Hino.

According to the company, Daimler Truck Asia sold 102,870 commercial vehicles last year. The turnover was given at 4.9 billion euros. The result before interest and taxes (EBIT) was 225 million euros. A spokesman pointed out that the Indian market with the Bharat Benz and China brand are not included in the numbers because both areas have been part of Mercedes-Benz Trucks since the beginning of the year.
