After a decline in March, Germany tourism caught up in April. In particular, domestic guests are stimulating the business.

The late Easter date gave Germany tourism a clear plus in April. As the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced, hotels and other accommodation companies with at least ten beds in the month of 41 million overnight stays. That was 11 percent more than in the same month. At that time, a large part of the Easter holidays were already in March, which, accordingly, had led to lower overnight number in March of this year.

Domestic guests book significantly more overnight stays

In April, the number of overnight stays from guests from Germany increased by 12.4 percent compared to the same month to 34.4 million. The number of overnight stays of guests from abroad increased significantly weaker: they booked 6.6 million overnight stays and thus 4.1 percent more than a year ago.

In the first four months of this year, the number of overnight stays with 125.6 million was around the level of the same period in the last year in the record year 2024, as the statisticians explained. Here, too, there were different developments in domestic and abroad: while the number of overnight stays booked by domestic guests increased by 0.1 percent to 104.4 million, the number of overnight stays of foreign guests gave up by 0.7 percent to 21.2 million.
