In Hamburg and Berlin, the train uses light barriers to determine passenger quantities in quick tracks. Thanks to artificial intelligence, forecasts could be made earlier than before.
Deutsche Bahn wants to use artificial intelligence to determine the utilization of S-Bahn. This emerges from a message from the Bahn daughter S-Bahn Hamburg.
The railway therefore determines how fully tracks are at most S-Bahn stations in Hamburg and at several stations in Berlin. So far it has been a test in Berlin.
What is new is that measurement data are compared with calculations by artificial intelligence, as can be seen from the message. Passengers could previously be informed about the occupancy.
The forecast achieves an accuracy of more than 90 percent, said the head of “DB Lightgate”, Julia Kuhfuß. Artificial intelligence has not yet been used in Berlin, said a spokesman for the Bahn daughter S-Bahn Berlin.
Passengers can see on displays on the platform how fully incoming trains are. The color green stands for a lot of space, yellow for medium utilization and red for little space in the car. According to the railways, 88 percent of all S-Bahn stations in Hamburg now have occupancy advertisements.
