According to Lower Saxony’s head of government, heat pumps are a “clever solution” – however, there was a risk of oil and gas. But politics must also promote the change in a socially.
In the heating dispute over the heat pump, oil and gas, Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Olaf Lies warns of pitfalls for consumers. “We must not let people go into a financial trap,” said the SPD politician of the German Press Agency with regard to political requirements for heating. “If someone wants to give the impression that the fossil heating is not a problem at all, then we also have to ask the question: what does the warmth cost tomorrow? What does it cost tomorrow if the CO2 price continues to increase? That is the responsibility we have.”
Politicians therefore do not have to ban the type of heating, but continue to leave the decision to the individual. But: People should also be able to rely on the long term that politics sets the right way. “We must not rely on the fact that everyone is happy and satisfied because we do not specify anything when heating,” said Lies.
Habeck’s heating law sparked discussions
The state is currently promoting the exchange of old heaters with billions of billions – for example the installation of heat pumps. The goal is more climate protection in the building area. However, there were violent discussions and a lot of outrage about the so-called heating law of ex-trade Minister Robert Habeck (Greens).
The law stipulates that every newly built heating must be operated 65 percent with renewable energies. However, the regulations initially only used new buildings in a new development area. Functioning heating can continue to be operated. There are transition periods for existing buildings and new buildings outside of new development areas.
Reads warns: That must never happen to us again
Prime Minister Lies describes the heat pump as a “clever solution to generate a lot of heat with little electricity”. However, this must also be financially interesting for everyone. “It is interesting when we say we want socially staggered funding. That means: for whom a heat pump is economically a challenge for which is more economical.
According to his own statements, the SPD politician still heats privately with gas. “I don’t have a heat pump yet, because our gas heating is still going well. If things work, then you let them run on first,” he said. “But I know that the heat pump is also a clever solution for an older house like our perspective.”
The heat pump is unfortunately an example of how a sensible technology was badly talked about, said Lies. “If we had invested all the strength that individual invested destructively invested in this topic, then we would now have a completely different debate in society. This should never happen to us again with a meaningful new technology,” he warned.
