Buns, coffee, sausage: A full breakfast table was much cheaper in 2006, but some products rose even more in the price than others.
Most Germans prefer to eat bread and bread rolls for breakfast – although it is even more important for almost half of the coffee. For many of these classic German breakfast products, they have had to dig deeper into their pockets since 2006.
This is shown by data from RTL, for which the star heard. The RTL reporters took up the prices of many different supermarket products 19 years ago and went back to shops in 2025 to compare prices.
What does price statistics say?
Also apart from these samples, the statistics show that many of the prices have risen sharply – sometimes also stronger than inflation. However, the price increase is often relativized when you look at how wages developed on average.
A large part of the strong price development has decreased to the last five years. By 2020, prices rose moderately around two percent a year. But 2020 to 2023 they made a big leap. Since then, they have been developing less steep again – with exceptions such as coffee.
