Fake applications have appeared on the Play Market offering Russians to invest in gas. Their names use the words “Gazprom” and “Investments” in various combinations: “Investments with Gazprom”, “GazInvest”, “GazActive Invest”. The icons of most of them look like the emblem of Gazprom. Izvestia studied these applications.
The applications are almost identical in content: on the first screen it is reported that Gazprom has allowed gas trading, and the video clip states that in 2019 the State Duma adopted a law on the possibility of “micro-investments in Gazprom”. Then it is proposed to fill out a feedback form, after which the “consultant” calls back to the user. He offers to invest in one of the projects – Power of Siberia, Nord Stream or Turkish Stream. The annexes also contain an alleged quote from Gazprom’s CEO Alexei Miller and a fake license to operate as a forex dealer (according to the Central Bank, Gazprom-Invest is not in the relevant register).
In Gazprom, Izvestia was told that they had nothing to do with such “platforms”. They added: the company is taking measures to counter fraud, including on the official Internet resources of Gazprom, the public is informed on how to recognize the main schemes, and the addresses of fake sites are sent to the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents.
Phishing sites of Gazprom Investments began to appear about three years ago – during this time more than 10 thousand fake resources were created, Igor Sergienko, deputy director general of Infosecurity a Softline Company, told Izvestia. At the same time, mobile applications on the same topics began to appear recently – in January 2022.
