Whether yellow, red, blue or brown: DHL, DPD, Hermes and UPS are omnipresent in road traffic. Your deliverers have easy to do with how industry numbers show.
Whether electronics, clothes, pet food or cosmetics: significantly more packages were transported and delivered in Germany last year. The shipment volume has increased by 115 million to 4.29 billion, said the Federal Association Package and Express logistics (BPEX) in Berlin.
The maximum value of 4.51 billion programs was not reached, it dates from 2021. At that time, people ordered a lot more on the Internet in corona times than before. With the end of the pandemic, the demand normalized and the package quantity initially dropped a bit. In the meantime it is going uphill again.
The programs are primarily about packages, but also – in comparatively small quantities – about express delivery and orders that are delivered by couriers.
Market segments develop differently
In the case of shipments sent to consumers, i.e. the classic order from an online retailer, the shipment quantity attracted 5.5 percent last year. The amount of packages that consumers sent to consumers also attracted something. Programs sent to companies – such as spare parts or technology – dropped by 1.6 percent. The latter was due to the weakening economy. The BPEX association sums up.
For this year, the advisory company Ke-Consult commissioned by the Association forecast a broadcast increase of around three percent. In the coming years, growth will continue to go on. In 2030 it could be about a quarter higher than in 2024 according to the forecast of the consulting company Ke-Consult.
The market leader among the package companies in Germany is DHL, followed by Amazon – the online giant takes over the delivery of some of his programs itself. Other larger competitors are Hermes, DPD, GLS, Fedex and UPS.
