Deutsche Bahn is in crisis. It has therefore been speculated on a change at the top of the group for months. But the new Minister of Transport initially relies on structural changes.

In order to get the serious problems at Deutsche Bahn under control, from the perspective of the new Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU), more than an exchange from the railway manager is needed. “The coach is gone and everything will be fine – I think that is shortened,” said Schnieder of the German Press Agency. “The goal is that we have a functional, well -positioned train,” he emphasized. In addition, count much more than simple personnel questions.

“The starting point is that we have to look at exactly: Where should the train be in a few years? How do we get to implement the goals that we give the railway and ourselves?” Said Schnieder.

“We want to work out a strategy. We will have it in my house until late summer at the latest. Then we will have formulated key points there, as we have to put up with the train.” Only then does Schnieder want to deal with personnel issues, for example with whether and how it should continue for rail director Richard Lutz.

The new government’s coalition agreement states that in view of the misery at the railway, the company’s board and the supervisory board of the company as well as the infrastructure subsidiary DB Infrago should also be re-established, “with the aim of mapping more expertise and achieving slimming”.
