Family outing to the Borussia Dortmund game

US Vice President JD Vance followed the BVB game against Ulsan HD at the club World Cup in Cincinnati-under the strictest security precautions.

Hardly anyone had expected this high visit: US Vice President James David “JD” Vance (40) was sitting with his family on the grandstand of the TQL stadium in Cincinnati on Wednesday and watching the club World Cup game by Borussia Dortmund against Ulsan HD from South Korea (final score 1-0 for BVB). For the 40 -year -old it was almost a home game – after all, he was born only 30 kilometers away in Middletown.

Ohio is familiar terrain for Vance. From 2023 to 2025 he represented the state in the US Senate before he promoted Vice President. It was only on Tuesday that he had visited a dinner of the Ohio Republican Party in the small town of Lima. The next day he stopped by the club World Cup. His wife Usah Vance (39), her three children and the well -known business lawyer Robert W. McDonald accompanied him.

Security as with a state visit

Visitors already noticed that something was different from the first two BVB games of the tournament. The surrounding streets in which residents had rented their parking spaces to fans in the past game were sealed off with metal barriers. Cut -sniffed pockets, safety officers controlled every electronic device, and Secret Service employees carried out physical visitations.

Particularly impressive: snipers were positioned on a roof well before kick -off to secure the guests of honor. According to media reports, security employees prevented curious viewers from making video recordings from the prominent guests. FIFA President Gianni Infantino (55) was also on site-but not right next to Vance, but on the stands alongside BVB sports director Lars Ricken (48).

Incidentally, the Dortmund game was the last game of the club World Cup in Cincinnati-a total of four preliminary round games were played in the city. Despite the prominent guests, the viewer interest remained manageable. Around 10,000 spectators were counted in the TQL stadium with its 26,000 seats.
