Since the last “Let’s Dance” relay, millions of people have known stunt woman Marie Mouroum. The Berlin native still sees catching up to martial arts in Germany. “But I think that will come.”

It is already a fixture among Hollywood professionals: The RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” has only made millions of people in her homeland in her homeland. But the real passion of the Berliner applies to martial arts. “By fighting, you really learn to sometimes box through, although you can no longer do it. Such a fighting spirit, you also take it into life.”

The 32-year-old is very successful in Hollywood as a stunt woman and martial arts actress. She took over the dangerous scenes for Halle Berry (“Cloud Atlas”), Queen Latifah (“The Equalizer”) and Bond-Girl Lashana Lynch (“James Bond 007: No time to die”). In her work, she often also shows combat techniques in front of the camera.

This Saturday (June 28th) Marie Mouroum in Hamburg will be in use at the Mixed Martial Arts event “Oktagon 73” for the streaming provider RTL+, but as a backstage reporter. For the audience, she takes a look behind the scenes of the spectacle. She speaks with performers, with ring judges and the ring doctor.

“A little prejudice in Germany”

“In Germany, I think mixed martial arts are still a little prejudice,” said Mouroum. “The halls are always sold out. It definitely has a huge hype.” An event in the Frankfurt Waldstadion attracted 60,000 people last year.

The stunt expert finds the diversity of MMA particularly interesting: “The fighter who fights there can not only box, he can do any martial arts.” The rich of boxes, kickboxing to Taekwondo and Judo. “And then you are on the floor and then you have to master floor fighting: Ju-Jutsu, wrestling, wrestling.” But there are also clear rules.

The audience in the United States is much further in the appreciation of MMA. “It has a completely different status. The Ultimate Fighting Championship watch families, watching women, seeing children.” That is a daily conversation. “Everyone knows the fighters who are most successful. Here in Germany it is not that far, but I think that will come.”

The beginning of “Oktagon 73” is on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on RTL+. With “Oktagon 73” Hamburg becomes the scene of a large MMA event for the first time. Christian Eckerlin-Germany’s best-known MMA-Star celebrates his comeback after an eight month break.
