Two years after the death of Suzanne Somers: Your widower confirms a new relationship

Suzanne Somers’ (1946-2023) Witwer Alan Hamel (88) has made his new relationship public. In October 2023, the US actress died of breast cancer at the age of 76, which had formed metastases in the brain. Around 20 months after her death, her husband found a new partner – Joanna Cassidy (79), actress and former colleague of his late wife. HAMEL confirmed the relationship now.

“I am happy to have Joanna in my life,” enthused the 88-year-old in the conversation, but then stated that he did not know “where this relationship leads”. “But what I know is that in the cocktail lesson of my life I was blessed with a great family – thanks to the incredible Suzanne – a privileged life and our company that we founded 50 years ago,” said the widower.

Alan Hamel and Joanna Cassidy have known each other for 45 years. “Joanna was a guest star in the Canadian talk show ‘The Alan Hamel Show’ in the 1970s. She was a great guest, the show was dynamic and we liked ourselves – not romantic, but above all respectful. We were both married at the time,” said Hamel. In 1985 they met again: Cassidy and Somers stood together for the “Hollywood Wives” mini series in front of the camera.

The decisive impulse finally gave Hamel’s son Stephen, whom he had from his first marriage to Marilyn Hamel. “My son met Joanna during a film screening and said after a long conversation that we would get along well and should meet. Stephen didn’t know that we knew each other,” recalled Hamel.

Suzanne Somers became known primarily through their roles in the sitcoms “Herzbube with two women” and “a strong family”. In addition, she published more than 25 books and founded several health and beauty companies. After a marriage to Bruce Somers, with whom she has a son, she married Alan Hamel in 1977.

Somers received breast cancer diagnosis over 20 years ago after she had previously fought against skin cancer. One day before her 77th birthday, she died in the circle of her family – according to her management, peaceful in her home.

Alan Hamel’s new partner Joanna Cassidy was married to Kennard C. Kobrin from 1964 to 1974. Two children emerged from this marriage.
