Queen Máxima spent a day in Rotterdam with the partners of the heads of state and government – including a bright group photo.

While the heads of state and government devoted themselves to great political questions at the NATO summit in the Haag, their spouses experienced a very special day in Rotterdam. Queen Máxima took on the role of the perfect host for the illustrious international audience in the port city on Wednesday.

Together with Loes Meurs, the partner of Prime Minister Dick Schoof, the Dutch queen led the delegation to the depot of the Boijmans Museum van Beuningen. There Rotterdam’s Mayor Carola Schoute received international guests for a special cultural program.

The day started with a photo shoot on the roof of the museum in front of the Skyline Rotterdam. In the picture, Máxima stands in a white satin dress with a green leaf overrun skating in the middle. On the right of her the mayor poses in a sun -yellow outfit, on the left she flanked Brigitte Macron in a green case.

During the subsequent tour of the museum, the guests got an insight into the depot and an explanation of the current exhibition “The Stories We Tell” by the artist Susanna Inglada.

Among the participants in the program were eleven women, including in addition to Macron from France, Emine Erdoğan from Turkey, Agata Kornhauser-Duda from Poland or Diana Fox Carney from Canada. Bo Tengberg was the only man, husband of the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

After visiting the museum, the group went on a long journey. On board the flagship Prince Amalia of the shipping company Koninklijke Spido, she explored Rotterdam from the water. The route led past the city’s most famous sights: the Erasmus Bridge, the Euromast, the Historical SS Rotterdam and the DE-HEF Bridge.

The NATO summit in the Haag brought together the 32 heads of state and government of NATO countries on June 24th and 25th to advise on the future of the military alliance. Among other things, this included US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Strander, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and Friedrich Merz.

The wife of the German Chancellor deliberately did not take part in the excursion: According to government spokesman Stefan Kornelius, the “tense situation and location in the Middle East” made it necessary from the perspective of the Chancellor’s couple “a concentrated work summit”, which is why Charlotte Merz remained a distance program.
