The musician Udo Lindenberg is against war. Many songs are about in his works of art too. And yet he thinks that there are also good reasons for upgrading.
The Hamburg musician and pacifist Udo Lindenberg (“Komet”, “Special Zug to Pankow”) sees no alternative to the fact that Germany is currently ongoing an upgrading course with a view to the many wars. “We have to be able to defend ourselves and that is why we have to say: If we have a shit, we would have liked ourselves differently. But if things go, it has to be like that,” the 79-year-old told RTL.
Lindenberg commented against wars of all kinds as a pacifist. This is evident in many of his songs and his painted works of art. An example: in 1981 Lindenberg has the song “What are wars for?” Published, it has been covered several times since then.
In the Ludwigsgalerie in Oberhausen, Lindenberg shows a retrospective of his pictures and drawings from Sunday since the late 1970s with more than 300 works. The exhibition presents under the motto “Cometelessly Panician” in addition to many large pictures, but also early drawings and shows Lindenberg clearly as a political artist.
