Queen Máxima provided a comedic insert at the NATO summit. A short video shows how she imitates Donald Trump. The social media community is happy.

A NATO summit is usually a stiff political event. Not so when Queen Máxima participates in the Netherlands. At the NATO meeting in the Haag, the Dutch royal couple received the US President Donald Trump with royal shine and, with an unexpected moment, caused a conversation far beyond the diplomatic framework.

Trump resided during the two -day summit in Huis ten Bosch, the residence of the royal couple. A rare privilege that is otherwise only reserved for state guests. The morning after, at breakfast together, King Willem-Alexander asked with a polite understatement: “I hope you slept well?” Trump, visibly satisfied, praised the ambience: “It was great, the house is great.” Then followed his trademark, the broad grin that everyone knows. And at that moment it happened.

Queen Máxima watched the scene and then seemed to imitate the facial expressions of the president. The slightly opened mouth, the tongue strike, the famous smile: a fraction of a second, hardly noticeable, but still captured in the video.

Queen Máxima seems to be pantomimous

What started as a fleeting look into the camera developed quickly into a viral debate and triggers enthusiasm with social media: “I can’t really like it as I like it as I like,” writes a user under the comments of the star-Reposting of the video. Many a followers were looking for explanations for her fell -up: “I think that it did not make it intentionally and it was more of a kind of surplus act. When dealing and seeing Trump’s visa, so much inner tension was accumulated that this spontaneous unloading came with her. Nevertheless, it is awesome.”

Another user sums it up: “Above all, the view of her right into the camera at the end! Looks like a scene of ‘Modern Family'”.

The Dutch newspaper even caught up with expert opinions. Accordingly, the unconscious imitation of facial expressions is an innate means of empathy. But whether intent or reflex? Open.

Of course, the appearance of the president in the United States triggered little enthusiasm. On YouTube, outrageous trump supporters struck about lack of respect, some saw the diplomatic etiquette injured. The question was asked whether a smile was shown too much here. And the royal family? Silence – as so often when royal serenity is required.
