With the yes word on a small island, the festivities are far from over – and the protests are not. An actor suspects that Bezos now also wants to buy the Colosseum.
The wedding is through, now it is continued: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world, and his new wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos make Venice the party capital. On an old shipyard area, the days of day should be completed on Sunday night – again strictly shielded from the public. A few hours earlier it was kept secret who should sing.
The 61-year-old US billionaire and the 55-year-old ex-journalist celebrated on Friday evening in the garden of a former Benedictine monastery on the lagoon island of San Giorgio with around 200 guests wedding. Both wore Italian designer fashion: he a tuxedo by Armani, a wedding dress from Dolce & Gabbana. The model was a dress that Sophia Loren had worn in the Hollywood classic “Houseboat” from 1958.
Bride published photos of themselves during the party
The venue was cordoned off by private security services. The police and military were also present. Allegedly, the wedding guests-including prominence such as the TV greats Kim Kardashian and Oprah Winfrey, US president Ivanka Trump, the actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Orlando Bloom as well as Microsoft founder Bill Gates-also had to do without the publication of photos.
Even during the celebration, photos of her appeared on the Instagram account of Sánchez in the wedding dress. To do this, she wrote the date June 27, 2025, provided with a red heart. The account with more than one million followers now also bears the name Lauren Sánchez Bezos.
Sánchez calls the wedding “extremely intimate”
The illustrated “Vogue” also published an exclusive wedding story. In it the former TV presenter was quoted with the words: “I feel like a princess.” About the celebrations, the costs of which are estimated at 10 to 50 million euros, she said: “The wedding is extremely intimate.” Of the 200 guests are 70 family members. According to media reports, 27 dresses are available for the celebrations by Sunday.
With an estimated assets of $ 220 billion, the founder of the online trade giant Amazon is one of the richest men in the world. It is the second wedding for both. They have seven children from previous relationships. There have been protests against the celebrations for days. Critics accuse Bezos of showing up his wealth and taking the whole city for a lot of money. Another demonstration is registered for Saturday.
BOCELLI son sings Elvis classic
The island party was practically nothing to see for the public. From a distance it was only to be heard, as the Italian Matteo Bocelli, son of the starter Andrea Bocelli, sang the Elvis Presley classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love”-and also a lot of jubilation from the festival. In the evening there was still a fireworks on the city beach of Venice, the Lido.
Out of concern for protests or an attack, everything takes place under strict security precautions and great confidentiality. Bezos and Sánchez stay in a luxury hotel directly on the Grand Canal. Venice is particularly the epitome of romance for couples from Asia and the USA. Hollywood star George Clooney and his wife Amal also got married here – but without so much mysteriously.
Guests on shopping tour – one in the museum
The couple hardly showed up outside the hotel. However, many guests used the stay for extensive shopping tours in the alleys around Markusplatz and also to selfies with a splendid setting. In contrast, Microsoft founder Gates went to the museum. The 69-year-old was in line in front of the art academy Gallerie Dell’accademia to visit an exhibition with works by Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Michelangelo.
The “Nozzze dell’anno” (“wedding of the year”) is also controversial in Italy. Minister of Culture Daniela Santanchè put the economic benefit at 950 million euros – which has many considerable doubts. In the “La Repubblica” newspaper, the actor Andrea Pennacchi expressed the fear that Bezos’ money orgy was far from over: “You will buy the Colosseum for the wedding day. And then resell.”
According to his surroundings, the US billionaire donated three million euros for various institutions in the city – from the perspective of his critics, however, an extremely small amount in his total assets. The couple also asked their guests to do without gifts and instead to give money for the renovation of Venice. How much money came in is not known.
