A summer evening and a line-up like from the 2000s: in Hanover there are several US stars on stage and ensure collective rewinding.
Big stage, big names, big show: US rapper 50 cents and RNB icon Mary J. Blige inspired around 26,000 music fans in Hanover. The stadium was well filled, but much empty than the sold-out Linkin Park concert a few days earlier, to which more than 42,000 people came.
Nevertheless, 50 cents with songs such as “Pimp”, “Candy Shop” and “Window Shopper” left no doubt – the crowd celebrated it loudly. The mood was exuberant despite free places. The fans hardly bothered that the rapper was out of breath and the bass swallowed some lines.
Rapper Xzibit (50) had already opened the concert with his hit “X” and massive sound in the late afternoon. Fat Joe (54) brought energy to the stage with “All The Way Up” and thanked the German audience on behalf of the hip-hop. Mary J. Blige (54) relied on shine, voice and soul with RNB hymns such as “Family Affair” and “Be Without You”. The end finally gave 50 cents (49) as headliners.
The music of the hip-hop legends, which celebrated their success, especially in the early 2000s, is old but not outdated. Even after two decades, the songs have lost none of their effect. The very big successes are behind, but that did not detract from enthusiasm. Many in the audience, mostly between 20 and 50 years old, grew up with the music and have now celebrated their heroes from the past.
Youth love with price premium
There was dancing, sung and filmed between sunglasses, snapbacks and smartphones – at over 25 degrees and visibly good mood. The evening was not cheap, the tickets cost up to 180 euros. If you wanted, you could take a memory with you: as a shirt for 40 euros or as a signed record of 50 cents success album “Get Rich or Die Tryin ‘” for 350 euros.
For 50 cents, Hanover was another station of his current “Legacy” tour. At the beginning of June he appeared in Frankfurt, and soon appearances in London, Paris and Warsaw.
