It is known that Johann Lafer is an expert in grilling. But what only a few should know: in his childhood the grill sausages tasted of exhaust. And that was a reason.
Of course, television chef Johann Lafer knows exactly how to grill a good steak. The 67-year-old had a dislike of grilling for a long time.
This was to blame for an unsavory experience from his childhood, as he told the “new Osnabrücker Zeitung” (Sunday). “I grew up in Styria on the farm. We had a grill bowl with a grille. That was the job of my father’s job, and he poured moped petrol over the coal.” As a result, the sausages and pork steaks would have tasted like exhaust. “My interest in grilling was set to 0 for decades,” said the Austrian born in Graz.
But according to Lafer, not only moped gasoline has no business to grill, but also predominated meat from the refrigerated counter. “Wet marinades drop on the embers and burn. Then toxic vapors are created. I think again of my father and his moped petrol.” It is better to crush the spices in the mortar and rub it on the meat the day before.
