Despite the heat, 1,600 guests celebrated the opening of the 42nd Filmfest Munich. Stars like Furtwängler and Hummels on the turquoise carpet.
The 42nd Filmfest Munich started on Saturday evening in tropical temperatures with a glamorous opening gala in the Gasteig HP8. Around 1,600 invited guests celebrated the beginning of the renowned festival and could not be deterred by the heat. Numerous celebrities frolicked on the turquoise carpet, including Veronica Ferres, Uschi Glas, Michaela May, Jutta Speidel and Christine Neubauer. The opening film “The Ballad of Wallis Island” by director James Griffiths also personally presented the main actors Tim Key and Tom Basden on the red carpet.
“Crime scene” stars, Munich pride and summer lightness
The focus was on two “crime scene” commissioners: actress Maria Furtwängler used a break for her visit to the film festival opening night. “Now I have just turned a film. And from next week I will turn ‘crime scene’,” said the Charlotte-Lindholm actress of the news agency Spot on News. “Whenever I don’t turn, I’m here,” she added. Your next thriller will be broadcast in October.
A special appearance was also that of Rosalie Thomass, which was recently confirmed as a new Franconian “crime scene” commissioner. The big media echo “honestly underestimated a bit”, the actress confessed. “I thought: Oh great, I’m going to make a cool film with Fabian Hinrichs a year,” she said with a laugh, her initial naivety regarding the “enormous interest” at the “crime scene” format.
The Munich actress also raved about her hometown: “I always want to say: Welcome to Munich, I’m now showing you my beautiful city.” She is particularly happy when the “whole Berlin and cool Cologne team come and then see how great and not only Schicki-Micki it is here,” said Rosalie Thomass.
Actress Aglaia Szyszkowitz summed up the atmosphere of the Munich film festival: “The summer lightness …” was special. Against the “freezing at the Berlinale” the heat is completely okay. You jump into the Isar before or afterwards and you go barefoot. It’s just a luxury. “
Debüts and reunion
It was a premiere for Cathy Hummels: “It is my first film festival,” revealed the entrepreneur and influencer with an eye-catcher look with XXL-Heels. You expect “a great comedy” [“The Ballad of Wallis Island”, Red.] And look forward to “new acquaintances”. After her role in “Sturm der Liebe”, she hopes for further projects: “I want to convince with performance, not with headlines.”
Marie Nasemann appeared for the next major public appearances after her separation. Don’t worry about the constant inquiries? The actress and podcaster was relaxed: “I am generally very open with many topics and now we also talk to each other again in the podcast and it’s totally fun.” She hopes to give one or the other “separate parents a bit”.
That evening she was particularly looking forward to “people from the industry with whom I have already shot and worked”. You wake up incredibly with a film shoot and then lose sight of each other again. “And if you look at an event like today, it is always very warm because you have shared a lot of emotions and situations,” said Nasemann.
The opening gala ended with a big party, in which the guests celebrated until late at night despite the continuing heat. The 42nd Filmfest Munich runs until July 7, 2025 and will present numerous national and international film productions in the coming days.
