John Travolta provided ecstasy under “Grease” fans in LA: The star appeared surprisingly when Danny Zuko was performed at a performance of the film.
It was the moment that nobody was prepared – not even the original cast of “Grease”. John Travolta (70) caused pure ecstasy on Friday evening when he was completely unannounced as his legendary character Danny Zuko during a “Grease” performance to sing along to sing along in the Hollywood Bowl in LA. The Hollywood star struts on the stage in a complete leather jacket gear and had the audience present.
Leather jacket and hair roller – Danny Zuko lives
“Tonight I surprised everyone at the ‘Grease’-Sing-A-Long and disguised myself as Danny Zuko,” Travolta wrote on Saturday and. “Nobody knew. Not even the cast. Thank you for a great evening.”
The video shows how Travolta is going to the stage in perfect Danny-Zuko manner, while the Hollywood Bowl breaks out in thunderous applause. His former colleagues, including director Randal Kleiser and the actors Barry Pearl, Didi Conn, Kelly Ward and Michael Tucci, were amazed when their old buddy suddenly stood in front of them.
Lasting legacy
With the characteristic nonchalance of his film character, Travolta greeted the audience: “La! I thought you are in Australia?” He joked and alluded to an iconic line from the film classic. “It’s cool, that’s cool, baby. You know how it is, rocking and rolling and what do I know.” Afterwards he started a little singing.
“Grease”, filmed in 1978, developed into a gigantic, global success. For Travolta it was the second appearance in an iconic work in a row – after “Saturday Night Fever” from the previous year. The film also made a star from his film partner Olivia Newton-John, who died in 2022.
