Because his last name often caused confusion, Rob Mcelhenney has now officially applied for the change to ROB MAC.
Rob Mcelhenney (48) officially applied for the change of his last name. As a spokesman now confirmed, the actor would like to appear as Rob Mac in the professional context in the future. So the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star, whose figure in the sitcom also bears the name Mac, wants to avoid confusion about the pronunciation of his surname.
The name change was long topic
The 48-year-old already spoke openly about his considerations last month. “Since our business and our history extend to other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even more difficult to pronounce, I just call myself Rob Mac,” he said at the time and continued: “People already call me Rob Mac or Mac, obviously because of the television series. It all makes it so much easier.”
Before his final decision, he asked himself whether a name change would be disrespectful to his ancestors. But talks with his family members calmed him down – they too admitted to wanting to change their surname.
The American actor, screenwriter and producer became known primarily through his role as Mac in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, which has been running since 2005. He has been married to his co-actress Kaitlin Olson (49) since 2008. Together the couple has two sons.
