From more than 150 years: For cost reasons, King Charles III. And the British Royals do without their train in the future. But there is already a replacement.
In Great Britain, the monarchy sets up the royal train of the royal train in the course of austerity measures. As part of the annual balance of the royal family published on Monday evening, the treasurer of King Charles III, James Chalmers, announced that he had put the famous means of transport out due to the high costs. Instead, he approved the use of two helicopters for the promotion of the royal family.
The royal train has been “part of national life for many decades, which is loved and cared for by everyone involved,” said Chalmers. However, as part of Charles’ efforts to modernize the royal family and to reduce its expenses, “time also came” to say goodbye to the train, said Chalmers. He referred to the efforts of the royal family “to be disciplined and future -oriented in the allocation of funds”.

The train has been used by the members of the royal family since the mid -19th century. Over time, however, his maintenance has become increasingly complex and expensive. The king had now told the train, which also includes a wagon specially made for him in the 1980s, “warmly best to live”.
Expenses amounted to around 100 million euros a year
According to the annual report published on Monday, the so -called Sovergän Grant, with which the official tasks and the palaces of the British royal family are financed, the expenditure for 2024/25 in a row was 86.3 million pounds (around 100.6 million euros). Next year the grant is expected to increase to £ 132 million.
The royal train has a long history: the first wagons were used in the mid -19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria. In 2020, Prince William and his wife Kate traveled through the country on a distance of 2000 kilometers to thank people in systematic professions for their commitment during Corona pandemic.
In 2022, the train was to bring the coffin of the late Queen Elizabeth II from Scotland to London – however, due to security concerns.
