Sean “Diddy” Combs has been acquitted of the most serious allegations, but was convicted of prostitution.
The judgment that the public had been waiting for for months fell on Wednesday (July 2) in New York: Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted from the most serious charges of sex trade and blackmail. However, the 54-year-old music mogul was found guilty in two lower prostitutional plants,
For Combs, the divided judgment means a prison sentence of up to ten years. If he had been convicted in all points, lifelong in prison would have threatened him. The relatively good news is for the former Bad Boy Records boss, who had spent the past few months behind bars.
Monthly process with 34 witnesses
The process that started in May stretched over 29 days of negotiation. The public prosecutor called a total of 34 witnesses, including Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, with whom he had led a relationship for eleven years.
The indictment tried to prove that Ventura was forced to participate in so -called “freak offs” – drug -driven, day -long sex performances with male prostitutes in hotel rooms, in which Combs watched, masturbated and occasionally filmed. Ventura, who was in the eighth month pregnant during her multi -day statement, described the allegations of abuse and the descriptions of these events in detail.
Combs’ defense team argued that the sexual encounters were mutually acceptable and the jury was able to convince that the public prosecutor could not prove the most serious allegations. They presented several evidence, including text messages that should support this argument.
Dozens of civil lawsuits follow
Although Combs has been acquitted in the main accusations, dozens of civil lawsuits are still imminent for sexual misconduct. His legal problems are far from over.
The case had attracted international attention for months and damaged Combs’ reputation. The former music mogul, which has become gray in custody during the months, can still record the acquittal in the most difficult points as a great success.
