At the Holyrood Week, Charles and Camilla defied the Scottish rainy weather and revealed a memorial stone in Kirkcaldy.
While it has been hot in Germany for days, the Royals in Scotland have to open the umbrellas: King Charles III received typical Scottish weather. (76) and Queen Camilla (77) on the second day of their traditional Holyrood Week. But the rain could not prevent the royal couple from completing their full schedule – on the contrary, they were in a good mood.
Special ceremony in Kirkcaldy
Wednesday led the royal couple to the coastal town of Kirkcaldy in Fife, where they took part in a ceremony for the 100th anniversary of the local war memorial. Pictures show Charles and Camilla in coats and with umbrellas, but radiant in conversation with the numerous spectators who had gathered around the monument.
The king revealed a special memorial stone at the war memorial, which was designed as a symbolic time capsule and contains contributions from the local community. Not only recognizes the new monument, not only all those who were fallen, but also recognizes the merits of all those who kept the public service of the city going during the two world wars.
The celebrations also included performances by several bands and a choir, including a group with traditional bagpipes. Charles and Camilla were also accompanied by a military parade on the way from their helicopter to the monument.
Holyrood Week with a full program
The trip to Kirkcaldy was part of the traditional Holyrood Week, which King Charles spends in Edinburgh every year in July. started the week with the traditional ceremony of the city key handover in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the king in the Scottish capital. In the evening he held an investment ceremony, in which, among other things, Scotland’s most successful Olympionics Duncan Scott (28) received an OBE order.
After the ceremony in Kirkcaldy, Queen Camilla returned to the Holyroodhouse Palace to organize a reception for Queen’s Nursing Institute of Scotland. The royal couple will continue the Holyrood Week with further appointments throughout Scotland by the weekend.
