Mar del Plata Film Festival: Three Argentine classics who turn 50

The 40th edition of the Marplatense festival opens “Mar del Plata Classics”, a section that celebrates the cinema classics.

The Mar del Plata International Festival advanced its programming for its 40th edition with new competitions and a tribute to the Argentine cinema which will have restored versions. The festival will take place from November 6 to 16 under the slogan “The Renacer of splendor”. Not only does it seek to renew its image, but also to claim the national industry.

This time, it is born “Mar del Plata Classics”a section dedicated to cinema classics. It will be focused especially on films that are 50 years old. One of them is “La Raulito” Directed by Lautaro Murúa and starring Marilina Ross. “The Jewish gauchos” by Juan José Jusid is another of the chosen ones. The adaptation of Alberto Gerchunoff’s novel had the actions of Pepe Soriano, Dora Baret, Víctor Laplace, Luisina Brando, Adrián Ghio and China Zorrilla. The story portrays the arrival of a group of Jewish immigrants to Entre Ríos, where they establish the first Hebrew colonies in the province. On the other hand, The restored version of “The War of Pork” can be seen directed by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson. Based on Adolfo Bioy Casares’s novel and starring José Slavin, Víctor Laplace, Marta González and Osvaldo Terranova.

Mar del Plata International Festival: an edition starring the classics

Not only will the classics who turn 50 will be held. The Marplatense festival will also present “Beyond oblivion” (1956) directed by Hugo del Carril with “Rosaura at ten” (1958) by Mario Softfici. Both films were recently restored and will be seen for the first time on Argentine soil.

Besides, Vlasta Lah, the first woman to direct a sound feature film in Argentina, will have her tribute within the “Mar del Plata Classics” section. Two of his works restored by the Gotika Foundation will be screened: “Las Furias” (1960) and “The Models” (1963).
