Ben Blümel talks about family chaos, children with bumblebees in the butt – and why there is movement for him.
Three children, including a six -month -old baby, travel a lot and yet sporty – with moderator and musician Ben Blümel (44), movement is part of everyday life. Among other things, because he likes to eat well: “I have to move a lot.” Fitness has been part of his life for a long time: “I did a lot of sport as a child,” says the 44-year-old. He was a permanent guest in trees, at sports fields, in the tennis club, he reveals at the award ceremony of the Deichmann initiative “Germany’s fittest primary school”, for which he is a patron.
It was no coincidence that a successful singer, moderator and actor later became enthusiastic about sports. Blümel followed his way early with great determination: “I moved out at 17, had two jobs and a scholarship – everything with one goal of singing.” He finally celebrated his breakthrough with the hit “angel”, which many still connect with him today.
Today the stage program often takes place in your own home – full of energy and occasional chaos. “Sometimes I would like to have an antidote against the activity of my boys. In winter, especially in winter you don’t know where to put the energy,” he explains with a laugh. The solution: a converted living room. “I get mattresses from Grandma and convert the apartment into a bouncy game paradise. Looks stupid, but is mega effective.”
Ben Blümel sees opportunities as a patchwork family
Blümel lives in a patchwork family – with all the challenges, but also opportunities. “Many think, patchwork is difficult. I don’t think so. You just have to take the time consciously. And if children are in this place and sometimes somewhere else, it also has something nice because the time is much more intense.”
He leaves open whether his children later want to go to the show business – with a wink: “They all already have a record contract and we will fly to New York tomorrow.” Then he gets serious: “I don’t know if I would advise my children. Music as a hobby is great, but with family, the perspective is postponed. “I can get along with Tütens soup. But if you have children, you suddenly think much more about security.”
Movement should be a matter of course
He wishes not only for his own children that movement becomes a natural part of life – but for everyone. That is why he is a patron of the “Germany’s fittest primary school” initiative. This year’s winner school in Balje in Lower Saxony was thrilled: “Something sweet is really rare. This is a diamond. I am so happy that this small fine school with 51 students has won.”
Blümel praises the commitment of Deichmann and the teachers: “You have to have a sparkling idea and then convince the teachers and say: It goes on! Without the teachers, this campaign would not exist.”
His appeal: “Movement is the be -all and o. Health is irretrievably linked to movement. You have to move – not only to stay fit, but also to be able to concentrate better. There are so many thousands of things that are incredibly important. In this respect, this action is simply a cuff.”
