Known for roles in “Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill”: Actor Michael Madsen – Darling of Handy Quentin Tarantino – is dead. One of his scenes is remembered.
The US actor Michael Madsen (67) is dead. His spokeswoman Liz Rodriguez confirmed to the German Press Agency on Thursday: “I can confirm that Michael died,” his manager Ron Smith confirmed to the broadcaster NBC that Madsen, known from several tarantino films, died of cardiac arrest on Thursday morning.
As the “Hollywood Reporter” reported, citing the police, Madsen was found lifelessly in his house in Malibu near Los Angeles. The emergency services declared him dead at 8.25 a.m.
Madsen became known primarily through his roles in films by director-legend Quentin Tarantino. In “Reservoir Dogs” he played the sadistic thief Mr. Blonde, who may have remembered many film lovers from a torture scene of the Tarantino first-time work. Madsen’s character is finally shot in the scene.
In “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” Madsen played a removed contract killer. He was also seen in “The Hateful Eight” and “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”.
Permanent guest in film classics
Madsen’s career began in the early 1980s at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, where he gained first stage experiences under the guidance of John Malkovich. The first television rolls followed, for example in the hospital series “St. Elsewhere”. In 1983 he was seen in a supporting role in the science fiction thriller “Wargames”-an early step on the way to his later film career.
Madsen was active in over 300 productions. His other films include “Thelma & Louise”, “Donnie Brasco”, “Species”, “Free Willy” and “Sin City”. In an interview 2018, Madsen said about his image: “I think I was more credible than I should have been. People really fear me.”
Private life with ups and downs
Privately, Madsen’s life was shaped by ups and downs. After two failed marriages, he had been married to Deanna Morgan since 1996. In 2024 he made the headlines when he was arrested for domestic violence – the indictment was later dropped. The suicide of his son Hudson in 2022 was particularly tragic, about which Madsen later said, according to the TV station CNN: “I did not see any signs of depression. It is so tragic and sad.”
Despite personal setbacks, Madsen worked intensively until the end. In addition to several independent films located in post-production, he planned the publication of a book entitled “Tears for My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems”. Madsen leaves several children.
