With daughter Ariane at EM game in Lucerne
Royale support for the Dutch national women’s team: Queen Máxima and Princess Ariane came to Lucerne for the European Championship game.
Queen Máxima (54) and her youngest daughter Princess Ariane (18) took a special mother-daughter excursion: On July 5, they visited the first game of the Dutch national team at the European Championship in Switzerland. The royal women in the Lucerne Allmend Stadium probably brought happiness to the kickers – because they showed themselves strong on the square and won 3-0 against Wales.
The Welsh team had its EM debut on Saturday evening, which the British heir to the throne Prince William (43) praised via Instagram story as a “proud and historical moment for Welsh football”. But they had no chance against the Dutch.
The queen cheers in orange
Máxima and Ariana are in a good mood on the stands. While the queen was wearing the Dutch national color and chosen an orange dress, her daughter appeared in a white blouse and dark pants. However, Ariane waved around 3,000 Dutch fans with an orange scarf.
Dutch royals in sporting use
The royal duo cheered on the team not only from the stands. There were also personal conversations with the players in the backstage area. The Dutch Royals are repeatedly shown on sporting occasions such as around 2024 at the Olympic Games in France and at the European Jews in the Oranje women in 2017 in the Netherlands. However, the royal family was not present at the men’s football championship last year in Germany. According to the Dutch media, King Willem-Alexander (58) would have come to the final. But the Netherlands lost 1-2 against England in the semifinals.
It remains to be seen whether the royals will be present in Switzerland. In any case, the queen and Ariane should be in the other two games of the group phase on Wednesday against England and on Sunday against France.
