Better late than never: Juliette Binoche surprises her Brazilian acting colleague Wagner Moura with a late prize.
Surprise for Wagner Moura (49). At the Cinéma Paradiso Louvre Festival in Paris, Juliette Binoche (61) suddenly entered the stage at the weekend. The French actress presented her Brazilian colleague the performance of the Cannes Film Festival. Binoche was the president of the jury. But did they not take place in May this year? Yes, but Wagner Moura could not collect his price for his leading role in “The Secret Agent” at the time. The “Narcos” star had to go to the filming of his next film “11817”.
“What particularly impressed me at this price was the fact that you were the chairwoman of the jury,” said Wagner Moura to Juliette Binoche. “I can’t even say how much I admire you and how much I appreciate it to preserve this price from your hands and from all the wonderful artists who were part of the jury,” he pushed.
Wagner Moura agrees with a Brazilian legend song
Juliette Binoche returned the compliment. “As a jury, we simply loved the film and you in the film, so we absolutely had to give you two prizes,” she said. In Cannes “The Secret Agent” not only won the price for the best actor. Kleber Mendonça Filho (56) was recognized as the best director. There were also Awards from the Film critic Association Fipresci and the Association of French Arthaus cinemas.
Kleber Mendonça Filho was sitting with Wagner Moura on the podium of the Paris Festival when Juliette Binoche entered the stage. The two presented the audience “The Secret Agent”.
Wagner Moura dedicated the late price of Brazilian culture and its sponsors. Spontaneously he started a song from his compatriot, the Bossa-Nova legend João Gilberto (1931-2019).
In “The Secret Agent” Wagner Moura plays a technology expert in Brazil in the 1970s, during the military dictatorship. It is pursued by agents for subversive activities.
With the internationally noted police thriller “Tropa de Elite”, Wagner Moura became the largest Brazilian film star of his generation in 2007. Through role as a drug boss Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series “Narcos”, he became known to an even wider audience.
