He is almost half a life of the crime Jan Maybach: from the first case, Marco Girnth was involved in the ZDF series “Soko Leipzig”. After 25 years he is now looking for new challenges.
Farewell to TV commissioner Jan Maybach: After almost 25 years, actor Marco Girnth leaves the Friday evening thriller “Soko Leipzig” on ZDF. “To cross the 50th year of life does something with you,” he told the German press agency. “You take stock and discover a lot of things that you might still want to go to in your life. But now I’ve been 55 years and if I want to change something again, then that has to happen now.”
First East German “Soko” branch
Since the first episode “Escape according to timetable” in January 2001, Girnth has been part of the firm ensemble of the then first East German “Soko” branch. In more than 500 episodes he was in action as Jan Maybach-first alongside Andreas Schmidt-Schaller, later with Melanie Marschke, Amy Mußul and Johannes Hendrik Langer. “I’m not going to be easy, but after more than 500 episodes (…) the time had come.” With this month, the “SOKO” turning work comes to an end. It will be seen in several episodes in the next 26 season.
The series had gained a lot in the two and a half decades, said the 55-year-old. “We switched to the main evening from the previous evening in 2003/2004, which resulted in completely different options regarding the narrative style.”
He will miss his “boss”
The switch to digital production has become “Soko Leipzig” filmmaker, cutter and more dynamic. “The storylines became significantly more figure-driven because we increasingly told” horizontally “, that is, personal fates and developments of the Soko commissioners have further forwarded horizontally over several episodes.”
He will miss the team – especially Melanie Marschke: “Melanie has been a colleague, girlfriend, companion, mentor and grief box for me in the past 25 years.” She plays his superior chief criminal commissioner Ina Zimmermann. “We haven’t overwhelmed ourselves in all the years or misunderstood sustainably,” said Girnth. “Melli was and is a constant source of joy not only for me, but for the entire team. A boss that you can only wish for.”
