Hoenig was taken to a hospital for acute heart problems last year and had occasionally been in the artificial coma. He was then operated on the esophagus. His management started a donation campaign to finance hospital and treatment costs because the actor has no health insurance.

Among other things, Hoenig played in the 80s success “Das Boot” and is also known from television teachers of director Dieter Wedel from the 90s (“The Great Bellheim”, “The Schattenmann”, “The King of St. Pauli”).
