Jürgen Drews is given a special honor: The pop singer was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by Markus Söder.
On Wednesday, Schlager icon Jürgen Drews (80) was honored in the Munich residence with the Bavarian Order of Merit. Prime Minister Markus Söder (58) personally presented the “King of Mallorca” the prestigious award – one of the highest honors that the Free State has to award.
The Bavarian Order of Merit was awarded Drews not only for its musical merits, but above all for its social engagement, especially for his work with the Foundation Life for Colon Cancer. He shows a big heart for his fellow human beings.
Great honor for the new Bavaria
Drews appeared in white leather pants and with traditional vest for the ceremony. It was only last year that he and his wife Ramona (51) moved to Munich from northern Germany. “What an honor! I am really looking forward to this special day and am grateful for all the years that I was allowed to do what I love – and that it is still seen and appreciated,” Drews had written.
In the associated video, he showed himself speechlessly about the honor. “I think it’s great that the Bavarian Prime Minister gives me the Bavarian Order of Merit – as a North German born in Berlin,” he joked.
Jürgen Drews is part of the “exclusive club”
Together with Drews, 62 other personalities received the certificate-including Schlager colleague Michael Holm, the famous Kessler twins and radio-end Fritz Egner. The football coach Hermann Gerland and Felix Magath, football legend Franz “Bulle” Roth and TV commentator Marcel Reif were honored from the sports area. The further range of the excellent ranges from volunteers to nurses and journalists to restaurateurs.
The Bavarian Order of Merit has been awarded since 1957. Only a maximum of 2,000 living people may be the sponsor of this honor. “This is a very exclusive club,” Markus Söder wrote. “The order cannot be bought or inherited – you have to earn it.” Not all meritors are in the spotlight, “but they are all role models and encouragers. They embody what makes Bavaria in a special way.”
