Conchita Wurst takes over a guest role in the Berlin musical “Romeo & Julia”. Why the Grand Prix star disappointed some political development and what it thinks of the flag debate on the Bundestag.
Stage star Tom Neuwirth alias Conchita Wurst is disappointing that this time no rainbow flag is supposed to blow on the Bundestag. “I am extremely disappointed with those responsible,” said the Austrian singer, who will soon take over a guest appearance in the Berlin musical “Romeo & Julia – dear is everything”.
Bundestag President Julia Klöckner had ordered the rainbow flag to be raised only on the international day against homophobia (May 17).
To see at the West Theater in autumn
Neuwirth can be seen twelve times in November as an angel of death in the Berlin Theater of the West. “I’m extremely happy,” said the singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) for Austria in 2014, the German Press Agency. Musical and theater itself – is his new love.
“It is incredibly beautiful and challenging that there is so much,” said the 36-year-old. “And I love a good challenge.” Rosenstolz musicians Peter Plate and composer Ulf Leo Sommer had worked together again in the musical.
Neuwirth: We are all people
In Berlin, the Christopher Street Day (CSD) is celebrated in two weeks, which enters the rights of gays, lesbian, trans sex and other queer people. The organizers were concerned in advance: the community is under pressure, for example, by political signals and concrete threats of right -wing extremists.
When asked how he looked at the situation, Neuwirth said that there was always movement in humanity and is currently going in a conservative direction. “You don’t quite understand how it happens,” said the Grand Prix star. He thought that society was much further.
“And now you ask yourself: Why? Why suddenly this rejection and this fear of diversity?” Said Neuwirth, who is now in Schwerin with the Mecklenburg State Chapel. All people are different. Nobody is just like the other. “And yet we are all people.”
