Radio silence for several years

There is radio silence between John Goodman and his former series wife Roseanne Barr. Reconciliation seems excluded.

It was a relationship that once delighted millions of spectators – but between John Goodman (73) and Roseanne Barr (72) there has been icy silence for years. The actor has now spoken about the relationship with his “Roseanne” series-wife. “We haven’t talked together for about seven or eight years,” revealed Goodman.

The 73-year-old is certain that nothing will change in the future. “I doubt that she would like to talk to me at all,” he said.

Common TV breakthrough

It was once very different between the two drama stars. From 1988 to 1997, Goodman and Barr embodied the couple Dan and Roseanne Conner in the ABC series “Roseanne” and thus celebrated their big breakthrough. “We got on from the first moment,” Goodman wistfully recalls the early days. “She made me laugh, I made her laugh – and wow, it was so much fun.”

The figures speak for themselves: At that time, 20 to 30 million viewers pursued the adventures of the Conner family. Both were awarded a Golden Globe for their leading roles. “Everything is so different today, but that was a very special time,” reflects the actor about the high phase of her collaboration.

End after the scandal

In 2018, the success story of the TV couple was to be continued when “Roseanne” returned for a tenth season after 21 years. But the revival ended abruptly when Barr caused a scandal with controversial tweets. In it she insulted Valerie Jarrett, a former advisor of President Barack Obama, racist. ABC reacted immediately and canceled the series. The 72-year-old still refuses to take responsibility for her statements. “As I see it, God told me what to do – and it was an atomic bomb,” she said last month.

“The Conners” was finally created as a spin -off for the canceled show – a sequel without the title -giving Roseanne Barr, in which her figure died of an overdose. Goodman also took over the main role in the new series for seven seasons.
