Katja Burkard and Hans Mahr experienced a serious crisis after more than 20 years together. A tearful call brought the turn.
It would almost have been the end of a great love. Over two decades, Katja Burkard (60) and Hans Mahr (76) have already been a couple when their relationship got into a deep crisis. The “point 12” presenter separated from the former RTL managing director-but the story took a surprising turn, as Burkard now
Since 1998, TV personality and the ex-remote manager have been going through life together. But at some point the everyday friction became a burden that she no longer wanted to wear. “It was always the same things that are annoying. And we have argued and discussed it so often,” Burkard explains the reason for her decision to really separate the host Ilka Petersen. Her age also played a role in the decision: “At some point I was at a point where I also panicked. I’m going to the 60 now – and is it what I want? Do I still want to argue about these things?” Burkard also admits that she was “a bit on an ego trip”. Another man did not exist during this time.
He fought “like a lion”
While Katja Burkard sorted her doubts, Hans Mahr did not give up. “Like a lion”, he fought for her relationship, says the moderator with a recognizable emotion. At first in vain – his wife stayed in her decision and could not be changed.
Until an evening in Hamburg when Burkard had drunk too much at a party: “I was really hung on my ropes and asked myself ‘is that right? That can’t be true that you separate now'”. At this emotional moment, her phone rang – her husband was on it. “That evening I said under tears, really cheesy, like in a Hedwig Courth Mahler film,: ‘No, I love you’-and then we actually came together again,” recalls Burkard.
Pair therapy was not necessary, explains the RTL presenter. Instead, they would have talked a lot together and recognized what they had together. Both had seen what mistakes they had made. “We were just godfroh that we would be back,” Burkard summarizes the knowledge.
