Guido Maria Kretschmer: “This is my guarantee for a long love”

For fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmer (60) and his husband Frank Mutters (70), the year of the anniversaries is in 2025. Not only did they both celebrate a milestone birthday, they have also been going through life together for 40 years. Even for the “shopping queen” star, this is an unimaginably long time. “You can no longer tell the young homosexuals,” he said

Your love seems perfect, without crises or scandals. “I wouldn’t have had time for scandals,” explains Kretschmer. His secret to a functioning relationship is simple: “I’m a huge fan of Frank! And I find it a little better than myself.” He can very easily inspire people he loves. “This is my guarantee for a long love.”

It all started in Münster in 1985. A blind cocker spaniel brought the two together. At first glance, it wasn’t quite. “With Frank it was the lower legs that blew me away,” recalls the 60-year-old. “It started with Frank and me.”

Since then, the two have said to each other five times. The designer left open whether there will be a sixth wedding. The love that started with a dog crowned the couple with more four -legged friends. Three currently live with animal lovers. But Kretschmer does not want to see the animals as a substitute for children. “Replacement sounds like something is missing.” The dogs are more of a gain and an enrichment. But: “If I had a functional uterus, I would have had seven or eight children with Frank. I would have been pregnant all the time.”

The 60-year-old himself comes from a large family. He has four siblings. His parents had “put many children into the world with full consciousness,” said Kretschmer last year. “Because they really wanted to have a family.” When his parents died shortly in 2023, Kretschmer went through the “hardest time in my life”.
