Gisèle Pelicot has become an icon for women’s rights far beyond France. Now she is honored with the highest Order of Merit, the Legion of Honor.
Gisèle Pelicot, who has become an icon for women’s rights in France after the rape process against her ex-husband and dozens of accomplices, receives the highest French Order of Merit. It is awarded the Legion of Honor, as can be seen from a publication in the Official Journal.
Pelicot’s ex-husband was sentenced to 20 years in prison in southern France at the end of last year for severe rape. He had repeatedly stunned, abused and abused his wife Gisèle for almost ten years with medication and had dozens of strangers rape. 50 co -accused men condemned the court for prison terms between 3 and 15 years.
Gisèle Pelicot (72) had insisted that the process took place publicly and thus ensured that rape and abuse of women came into the focus of the public debate far beyond France.
