Brad Pitt sues Angelina Jolie for ‘illegally’ selling a vineyard in France

The Oscar-winning actor couple had in 2008 bought a majority stake in Miraval, which is located in the village of Correns, in southeastern France, between Marseille and Nice. They got married there in 2014.

Pitt, 58, said he had “put down money and sweat” to build Miraval into one of the world’s most renowned rosé winemakers, with annual revenues exceeding $50 million, according to the suit.

The actor accused Jolie, 46, of seeking “exceptional unearned profit” from her work, while inflicting “gratuitous damages” on him.

Jolie’s attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday.

According to the lawsuit, Jolie told Pitt in January 2021 that she had made the “painful, heavy-hearted decision” to sell her stake in Miraval, and that she could no longer own an alcohol-based business because of her personal objections.

Talks between Pitt and Jolie to buy out the stake collapsed five months later, according to the lawsuit.

Tenute del Mondo, a unit of the private company Stoli, announced the purchase of Jolie’s stake in October.

The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for breach of contract and other legal claims.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016 and their divorce became final in 2019. They have six children.

Pitt won Academy Awards in 2014 for helping produce the best picture winner “12 Years a Slave” and in 2020 for best supporting actor in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Jolie won an Oscar in 2000 for best supporting actress in Girl, Interrupted.
