HBO Max made an agreement with CIETEN, sales and distribution company led by Manuel Garcíato add to its platform three of the most prominent feature films of the year and a classic of the new Argentine cinema.
With these incorporations, HBO Max reaffirms its commitment to national cinemaoffering new local voices and narratives. As Martín Crespo, VP of general entertainment content for Southern Cone and Andean region of Warner Bros Discovery states: “This agreement reinforces the HBO Max strategy to boost the national content: combining on the original productions platform its own productions with the acquisition of outstanding contemporary titles The aura, nine queens, the hug party, wild stories, the Odyssey of the Giles and the recent tribute for the 40th anniversary of Waiting for the float.
The new selection brings together three of the most recognized local productions of the last year and a classic of the new Argentine cinema:
Thesis on a domestication (2024), by Javier Van de Couter
Camila Sosa Villada It gives life to a successful transvestite actress who achieves professional and personal success. He is prestigious, marries and adopts a child, the dream seems complete: family utopia. This feature film challenges stereotypes with a “transvestite thesis” on ambition, glamor and contradiction. Thesis on a domestication was the winner of the Golden Q-Hugo award for Best LGBTQ film at the Chicago International Film Festival and recognized in Bafici 2025.
Gatillero (2025), by Cris Tapia Marchiori
A former hitman, played by Sergio Podeleyaccept a narco commission after leaving prison, unleashing a nightless action on Maciel Island. What seemed like a routine robbery becomes betrayals, persecutions, action and violence, all filmed in real time and a single sequence plane of 80 minutes. With the actions of Matías Desiderio, Julieta Díaz, Mariano Torre, Susana Varela, Ramiro Blas and Maite Lanatathe film was awarded for its script, direction and performances at festivals such as Toledo, Fantaspoa, Fant Bilbao and Bafici 2025.
Continuous present (2025), by Ulises Rosell
The film addresses intimate exploration on the link between a teenager with autism and its close environment. Starring Lisandro Rosell, Valentina Bassi, Jeff Zorrilla and Ema Montenegrothe story takes place in different family environments such as theater and shootings, city and nature, always maintaining the focus on Lisandro’s relationship with people in charge of their care. Continuous present was recognized with the public prize in Bafici 2025 and is currently exhibited in the Malba.
A red bear (2002), by Israel Adrián Caetano
This Argentine cinema classic starring Julio Chávezfollows the story of “The Bear”, who recently out of jail, seeks redemption and reunion with his daughter. The character of Chávez, is forced to get involved again in the crime to charge an old debt to a narco capo. Released in 2002 and with a stellar cast that includes Soledad Villamil, Luis Machín, Agostina Lage, Enrique Lóporace and René LavandA red bear was awarded in Cannes and obtained multiple silver condor.
