It applies to King Charles as for all other royals: they prefer to stay in their summer residences on vacation. This will be no different this year.
Royals like King Charles or King Felipe often travel around the world for business. On the other hand, when it comes to your summer vacation, you stick to family traditions. From Scotland to Greece: Here you can find the monarchs in summer.
King Charles and Queen Camilla
Like Queen Elizabeth II (1926–2022), King Charles also spends the summer in Scotland – together with Queen Camilla. The goal is Balmoral, the rural residence of the Royals. The castle is considered a retreat of the family: a lot of nature, a lot of privacy. The Windsors use the property for walks, picnic, rides, hunting and fishing.
Charles and Camilla traditionally arrive in August. Charles’ Birkhall, the Balmoral, is also part of the Balmoral ownership. But not only Scotland did it to the couple, but also the Greek islands. There they are said to have spent part of their honeymoon in 2005.
Prince William and Princess Kate
The heir to the throne Prince William is probably moving back to Norfolk in summer. Also this year, ANMER Hall, his country seat on the Sandringham estate, is to become a holiday residence again. There he enjoys the calm of nature with Princess Kate and the children George, 11, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7.
A visit to Charles and Camilla in Balmoral is usually also on the plan. And sometimes the family moves further – for example to the Caribbean, where they have been on vacation several times.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia
King Felipe also has a summer residence: in Mallorca. The Spanish monarch has spent the warm months in the Marivent Palace on the Balearic Island since childhood. His home is located there on a wide property between Pinienhainen. The Spanish royal family has been on vacation here since the early 1970s. Felipe VI later brought. His own family, Queen Letizia and the daughters Princess Leonor, 19, and Princess Sofia, 18, here. You typically start your summer vacation at the end of July and can be photographed regularly on excursions and appointments. Felipe’s mother Sophia is often included.
King Frederik and Queen Mary
The Danish royal couple Frederik and Mary has a summer residence in Gråsten with Gravenstein Castle. There they have often withdrawn with their children, Prince Christian, 19, Princess Isabella, 18, and the twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 14. Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe, and his aunt, Princess Benedicts, could also do company there for a few weeks.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima
As a heir to the throne, King Willem-Alexander from the Netherlands in 2012 bought a luxury villa on the Greek peninsula Peloponnese as a holiday domicile for his family-for 4.5 million euros. The property is located near the town of Kranidi and offers the king, his wife Queen Máxima and the three joint daughters two pools as well as a private marina and his own section of the beach. In 2020, the family made negative headlines when they went on vacation here during the Corona restrictions in their own country.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde
The Belgian royal couple King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have been spending his summer vacation with his children on the calm French island of Île d’Yeu for many years. First they rented a holiday home there, and in 2019 the family finally bought an estate with a villa. The family should particularly like that they can move relatively undetected on the island, and they can also be kitesurfing, cycling or hiking here.
King Carl XVI. Gustaf and Queen Silvia
The Swedish royal family around King Carl XVI. Gustaf and Queen Silvia prefer to go at home: For them it goes to the island of Öland, which is a few hundred kilometers away from Stockholm. The family has the summer residence Schloss Solliden.
King Harald V and Queen Sonja
The private summer residence of the Norwegian royal family of Harald V and Queen Sonja is called Mågerø and is located on the peninsula of the same name. The royal family chose this location for its seclusion and the natural environment. There is also an official summer residence called Bygdøy in Oslo, where the family also likes to take a break. The organic farm has numerous animals, including 60 cows.
