“Severance” and “The White Lotus” at Emmy favorites at the front
Two satires over the modern working world clear the nominations for the most important television award in the world. However, “The White Lotus” and a Batman offshoot can also score points.
The office dystopia “Severance” and the super rich satire “The White Lotus” are among the top favorites in the drama categories at this year’s Emmy Awards. “Severance” (to see Apple TV+ in Germany) deals with the machinations of an biotech company and leads the entire field with 27 nominations.
“The White Lotus” (Sky Atlantic) received 23 nominations. Both are also proposed in the “Best Drama series” royal category. “Andor”, “Diplomatic Relations”, “The Last of Us”, “Paradise”, “The Pitt” and “Slow Horses” are also nominated for this.
“The Studio” and “Hacks” lead to comedy series
In the comedy series, the Hollywood satire “The Studio” (Apple TV+) with 23 nominations is ahead of “Hacks” (RTL+) over an aging comedienne with 14 entries. The respective leading actors Seth Rogen and Jean Smart can also hope for a price.
The six other nominations as the best comedy series are “Abbott Elementary”, “The Bear”, “Nobody Wants This”, “Only Murders in the Building”, “Shrinking” and “What We Do In The Shadows”.
Youth violence drama “Adolescence” scores with miniseries
The Netflix youth drama “Adolescence” comes to 13 nominations in the miniseries, including for his young star Owen Cooper and for Stephen Graham, who plays the father of a violent teenager.
“The Penguin” (Sky Atlantic) received even more nominations, 24, about the rise of Batman’s opponent Oswald Cobb in the underworld of Gotham with Colin Farrell in the leading role. “Black Mirror”, “Dying for Sex” and “Monster: The story of Lyle and Erik Menendez” are the other nominations in the “Best Miniser or Anthology series” category.
Many film celebrities can hope for TV prices
Many prominent Hollywood names appear in the actor categories. Kathy Bates stands for a new edition of “Matlock” as the best leading actress in a drama for election, Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”) and Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) could be the best leading actors in a drama series. Cate Blanchett (“Disclaimer”) and Jake Gyllenhaal (“For lack of evidence”) are nominated as the best actor in miniseries.
The 77th Emmy Awards will be awarded on September 14th and moderated by Comedian Nate Bargatze this year. Last year “Shogun” won the best drama, this year there was no new season in the series. “The Bear” was ahead in the comedy series, but for the third season that was available this year, the reviews were significantly worse.
