After the appearances in Germany cancel the duo’s full participation in the European tour of the US band Gogol Bordello. Nevertheless, the British want to be on stage again soon.
The British punk rap duo Bob Vylan has to do without an anti-Israeli slogan to participate in a European tour. A singer had chanted at the Glastonbury Festival in England on the stage “Death, Death to the IDF” (death, death to the Israeli armed forces) and thus attracted violent criticism.
Actually, the British should accompany the US group Gogol Bordello on their European tour in September and October. However, this is no longer possible for logistical reasons after the appearances in Germany were canceled by organizers and venues, said Gogol Bordello on Instagram.
Bob Vylan still wants to perform in Europe
“The decision to take it off the list was not our decision and outside of our control,” said the US band’s post. After the incident, Bob Vylan had temporarily removed the program, but after the explanations of which the conversation about participation resumed. “We appreciate freedom of expression from all perspectives,” continued the band.
On Bob Vylan’s Instagram account, it was said that due to logistical difficulties, it was decided not to take part in the tour “Our friends Gogol Bordello”. The duo added: “But we will go to Europe in the coming months, both for festivals and for our own concerts.”
Police investigated because of possible crimes
The band had brought anti-Semitism allegations to the controversial speech choir at the Glastonbury Festival. The police said they investigated because of possible crimes and check whether it was hate crime.
Among other things, the British Prime Minister Keir Strandmer came up with sharp criticism. The BBC, which had broadcast the performance live and was also suspended for serious allegations, and the organizer distanced themselves significantly. The US State Department withdrawn the Visa for a planned tour in the United States.
The duo, on the other hand, represented the slogan as a legitimate criticism of the Israeli warfare in the Gaza Strip. They weren’t death, but had asked for the dismantling of a military machinery, the musicians wrote in an Instagram post.
